Die lettische Komponistin Maija Einfelde wurde 1939 in Valmiera (dt. Wolmar) geboren. 1966 absolvierte sie die Kompositionsklasse bei Prof. Janis Ivanovs an der Rigaer Musik-Akademie (heute: Nationale Musikakademie Lettlands). Sie schreibt mit Vorliebe Kammermusik, aber unter ihren Werken befindet sich auch eine Sinfonie. Bisher schrieb sie 3 Violinsonaten und je eine Viola- und eine Cello-Sonate. Ihre beiden Orgelstücke heißen Crucifixus und Gloria (mit Piccolo-Trompete). Unter ihren sonstigen Kompositionen befinden sich Chorwerke, Lieder, mehrere Kantaten und zwei Stücke für B-Trompete und Klavier über lettische Volkslieder.
Gegenwärtig unterrichtet Maija Einfelde am J. Medins-Musikkolleg in Riga. 1998 erhielt sie den 1. Preis im Barlow-Wettbewerb (USA).

  Die Komposition „Eine kleine Ballade“ (Bestellnummer: ISMN M-50000-845-3) handelt von zwei jungen Männern, die in den Krieg gehen und über die ihnen nahestehenden, geliebten Menschen nachdenken (Volkslied).

Die Komposition „Gloria“ (Bestellnummer: ISMN M-50000-844-6) wurde 1987 komponiert und im gleichen Jahr von Janis Klisans (Trompete) und Talvaldis Deksnis (Rigaer Domorganist) uraufgeführt. Eine CD-Aufnahme gibt es von dem Duo (Edward H. Tarr, Trompete und Irmtraud Krüger, Orgel): „Festliches Orgelkonzert im Dom zu Riga“ (Kreuz plus Musik, Nr. 1627). Die Aufnahme wurde an der historischen Walcker-Orgel (1881) im Dom gemacht.

The Latvian composer Maija Einfelde was borne in 1939 in Valmiera. Maija Einfelde completed the composition class at the Rigaer music academy in 1966 with Prof. Janis Ivanovs (today: National music academy Lettlands).
